Trumperica
As we all know the new President of the USA — Trump has taken charge on Jan 20th 2025 and as expected he has made entry with a bang. On the initial day he issued many Executive orders and some of them have been very contentious as he said in the election campaign. Those include:
- Revoke of citizenship based on jus soli
- Exit from Paris Climate Agreement
- Exit from WHO
- Sending back illegal migrants to their respective country immediately
- Revoking some of the political decisions of Joe Biden and Obama
- Trade Tariffs in Canada, Mexico, China
- 90 Day freeze on foreign assistance
As he mentioned in his Election Campaign, Now he is on Mission MAGA — Make America Great Again and proves himself as an American Nationalist. In this context let us analyse the impact of his decisions on the World and specifically India.
- Revoking Citizenship based on Jus Soli: USA Since 1889 has been issuing Citizenship based on Jus Soli. The major reason for revoking this provision is to stop the USA from being the breeding ground for illegal migrants and thus growing their communities illegally which is causing loss of employment for the native Americans, unnecessary expenditure of taxes collected from the Americans on illegal migrants. As an American Nationalist his view is absolutely right. But such decisions should not be taken abruptly and those individuals should be given enough time and behave with them on a humanitarian basis.
- Exit from the Paris Climate Agreement: This is not the first time the USA is exiting from such Climate Agreements. George Bush when he was president in 2001 withdrew from Kyoto Protocol. Trump in his first period has exited from the same Paris Agreement. Later Joe Biden revoked Trump’s decision and came back in the Paris Agreement. Now it’s again Trump’s time. The USA which has contributed to the pollution for decades, exited Agreement saying it is biased towards China and India, though being the top most polluters has been exempted till 2050 and 2070 respectively. India has started rapid industrialisation only since the 2000s. It is agreed that India is one of the top polluters but all these decades the USA and other developed countries are the reason for pollution which ultimately led to climate change. Climate change can happen not just in a decade. It takes continuous pollution for many decades. Thus India’s exemption till 2070 is fair. USA is just playing its capitalistic game and thus now a huge burden lies on other developed and developing countries.
- Exit WHO: USA is one of the top contributors of funds to WHO. Saying the USA and Americans are not much benefitted from WHO, got exited. WHO asks the US to reconsider its decision. This contribution is decided by certain criteria and differs for each country. Now this burden falls on the remaining countries. However this is now inevitable Other countries should see this as an opportunity to establish a Multipolar world led by Global South as they face maximum disease and health burden. And WHO also should focus on shifting its header quarters to its regional offices or decentralizing the various functions to the regional offices.
- Deporting Illegal Migrants to their respective country is the measure any country in the world would take as they can be a threat to national security and causes extra financial burden on the Treasury. But in the Trump 2.0 version the deporting is inhumane that they are being deported as criminals by tying them with hand coughs. Mexico has the highest diaspora in the USA, followed by India and China. According to the recent statistics out of total 14 million illegal or undocumented migrants there are 7.5 lakh Indians and of them 18000 people are in the final list and are in detention centres. Why are Indians taking so much risk? We need to identify those reasons and solve them to prevent. Some of them being Unemployment, Lack of Matched Skilled Opportunities, Inflation. So people are migrating to countries like Saudi, Qatar, USA etc.
- Revoking Decisions of Joe Biden and Obama are mostly political and need to focus much on them.
- Trade Tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China. It is majorly due to a drug called Fentanyl. It is 50 times more poisonous than Heroine and 100 times more poisonous than morphine. China manufactures this API and Canada, Mexico produce various medicinal products which consists of high amount of fentanyl. This is affecting the Americans Health. This is one of the main reasons for imposing tariffs on those 3 countries.
- 90 Day freeze on Foreign Assistance citing inefficiencies and ideological opposition to USAID. USAID was established in 1961 as an independent agency under the Foreign Assistance Act, designed to provide global humanitarian and development aid. According to the U.S. government’s official spending tracker (USASpending.gov), USAID was allocated $44.2 billion in the 2024 budget. This amounts to 0.4% of the total U.S. federal budget, but nearly 42% of all humanitarian aid tracked by the UN in 2024. In India since the 1960s, its supporting initiatives in education, immunisation, HIV/TB prevention, polio eradication, and child health. Though direct financial aid to India has declined in recent years, USAID contributions still amounted to over $150 million for the latest fiscal year. However, in many conflict-ridden regions, USAID remains a lifeline. Withdrawing from international aid efforts is more than a bureaucratic shift: it risks leaving millions without food, medical assistance and critical resources. The decision reflects an inward-looking approach
Trump as said in his Election campaign is doing all the works and is on a Mission of Make America Great Again. As an American Nationalist he is right to a certain extent, But America was never a country of melting pot nationalism, it always preferred being a Salad bowl.
